This week, IMTRAM delivered rapid and precise brake force measurements on two complete Siemens trains for Metro Trains in Newport, showcasing the cutting-edge NetBee carry-case system. Compact and portable, the case includes four disk brake foils, a tablet, and a router. When connected to mains power, it charges all devices and powers the router, making it an exceptionally convenient solution that can be effortlessly transported to any testing site.
The demonstration tested every disk brake with remarkable efficiency, using four foils to measure an entire axle simultaneously. Six measurements, including holding and emergency brake functions, were completed for each brake. The ultra-thin foils, designed for precision, slip easily between the brake pad and disc without disassembly, ensuring accurate results that reflect the brakes’ true performance. Transitioning foils between disks is quick and seamless, streamlining the process further.
The entire process was smooth and efficient, with each train taking just two hours to complete, providing Metro with highly accurate and valuable brake force data.
Why Brake Force Measurement Matters
Knowing a train’s brake force is vital for safety and reliability. Regular measurements allow maintainers to confirm brakes meet safety standards, catching issues early. With NetBee’s fast, accurate, and portable system, this critical safety check is now simpler than ever, enabling quick assessments that bolster rail safety and performance.
