Imtram – Solutions for the Rail Industry

IMTRAM Pty Ltd was established in 1985 to participate in the design of new trams for Melbourne, Australia. From that beginning, the company has expanded its operations to South East Asia and has become the area representative for a number of major international equipment suppliers to the light and heavy rail industries.

IMTRAM is now a leading consultant, providing solutions for the rail industry with extensive experience in the design and commissioning of rolling stock and assemblies.

As a small family run business we can be flexible and responsive and as a result, strive to deliver solutions that are:

  • Innovative
  • Relevant
  • Value for money

We achieve this through the following:

  • Design and manufacture of quality components
  • Repair and overhaul services, as well as on-track support
  • Sourcing carefully selected products to meet the standards our customers expect.

In representing key technologies from overseas, Imtram acts in the role of sole distributor. The range of products is relatively diverse (but always within the rail industry) because one of the key factors in our success has been the sourcing of new emerging technologies that fulfils a need in the industry.

Our Staff

Robert CavalloManaging Director

Robert has 2 degrees; Electrical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Prior to taking over Imtram in 2001, Robert carried out design and project management roles in the Oil & Gas and Chemical Industries for customers such as ESSO, Shell, Orica ( formerly ICI Australia ) and Santos.

As managing Director he steers the Company and is responsible for financial, administrative and corporate matters and sometimes doesn’t mind rolling up his sleeves and getting his hands dirty in the workshop.

Sonia WhitemanGeneral Manager
Sonia started at Imtram in 2008 and is responsible for the growth in the range of products Imtram supplies.

Sonia is the go to woman when you need quality stuff that is really rare and maybe doesn’t exist yet; but somehow she will find it.

Mark CavalloService Manager
Mark has almost 10 years’ experience in mechanical trade and heads our service centre. He has specialised training in H&K hydraulic brakes and Secheron contactors and breakers. He enjoys the challenge of new projects and takes great pride in the work undertaken in our various service areas.

Mark also builds websites in his spare time in case you know anyone who needs one.

Peter HayesSales & Marketing Manager
Peter joined IMTRAM in 2019. He has come with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the rail industry; having managed sales teams at Austbreck and Invensys, amongst many others.

Peter is focussed on expanding the product range and service offerings at IMTRAM and helping to establish closer relationships with our existing and new customers.

Peter likes to dress well and always looks sharp. But for some reason he doesn’t like to have his photo taken.

Sue BrophyAdministration
Sue Brophy has recently joined the Imtram team and has brought many years of bookkeeping experience along with her big feet in order to fill the shoes of the lovely Robyn Kellett who retired on November 3.

Her main areas of responsibility are accounts payable and receivable.

She likes crosswords, puns and has an excellent and ever-growing catalogue of Dad jokes at the ready.

Rick BucklandBusiness Development
Rick started in 2009 and represents Imtram in the field. Rick travels extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand to demonstrate new products and has a long history of working with industrial equipment. Rick concentrates on safety products and track maintenance equipment such as excavator attachments and sleeper repairs.

Rick enjoys spending time in the outback and hanging out with the locals.

Martin KauferProduction Engineer
Martin joined IMTRAM mid 2020. A Mechanical Engineer, he is a welcome addition to the team, having previously worked at Deutsche Bahn. Martin is responsible for production and Quality Control. He also offers extensive support for our Calipri range of products.

When Martin isn’t busy drawing models for our new 3D printer, you will likely find his huge German feet in the sand participating in a beach volleyball session.

Tony CollinsWorkshop Assistant
Tony started at Imtram in 2018. For many years he repaired shoes and watches in the heart of Melbourne. After looking for a change, he was welcomed at Imtram for his hard working and enthusiastic attitude. Tony is responsible for inwards and outwards goods, freight and the general condition of the workshop.

Born in Liverpool we enjoy the many vocabulary quirks he introduces, such as the ‘roller shutter’, for our large workshop door, which doesn’t actually roll.

Summer LiangService Technician
Summer is the newest member of our team. She came to Australian from Taiwan and recently completed a Diploma of Automotive Technology, Summer assists in the service department, working predominantly on hydraulic brakes and circuit breakers.

Summer brings a wonderful energy and enthusiasm to the team. She likes to keep our kitchen stocked with delicious treats and wonders why are all putting on a few extra kilos.

Design and Manufacture

In rail it is important to get the full utilisation out of equipment. This sometimes means managing to run it past its design life.

Imtram specialises in the reverse-engineering and manufacturing of critical components, obsolete parts and short runs.

Quality components are our speciality:

  • Cast
  • Machined
  • Rubber
  • Plastics

Imtram ensures parts are met to specific standards by using precision measuring equipment. If necessary we can also provide hardness, chemical and tensile certification.

Whatever it is, we can assist.
