This case study outlines the process followed by IMTRAM to breathe new life into the Secheron UR26 Circuit Breakers, prolonging their operational lifespan.
Overhauling the Combino Brake Units for Yarra Trams
Yarra Trams, the operator of the tram network in Melbourne, Australia, operates a fleet of Combino trams which require regular maintenance and overhauls to ensure their continued safe and reliable operation. The brakes are a critical component of these trams and require specialized knowledge and expertise for their overhaul. This case study describes the successful completion of the 16-year overhaul of the Combino brake units by IMTRAM, the authorized service center for H&K and Secheron.
Yarra Trams BCU Commissioning
In 2020 Yarra Trams was required to upgrade some obsolete components of their Combino BCUs. Some parts were no longer available and IMTRAM provided a solution with partner Hanning & Kahl to upgrade some components in the BCUs as opposed to replacing them completely. This saved costs as well as materials as only some components were required to be replaced to make the BCUs future proof.

Wavetrain – Level Crossing Protection
The Wavetrain Level Crossing Protection uses acoustic sensors mounted directly on the rails to detect the unique sound energy of approaching trains. A nearby Control Unit processes the data and activates warning measures (such as lights and sounders) at the optimal time.
RailSense – TempSense® Monitoring
TempSense® from RailSense is a system to measure rail temperature remotely. It provides warning alerts as well as scheduled measurements for Critical Rail Temperature monitoring – all remotely without the need for track side intervention. TempSense is designed to be installed on a rail network track to monitor temperature of the rail from –20 to +85 degrees C.
RailSense – VoidSense® Monitoring
The innovative NETBEE brake force measuring system revolutionizes brake force measurement through the use of thin-film foil sensors. The NETBEE system carries out the force measurement on air brakes (brake disc, block brake) and hand brakes. The sensors record measurement data at 24 points simultaneously, without mechanical modifications and transmit them wirelessly to a tablet.
